Trying out the Parkrun
Here at Active Piranha we understand that trying out the Parkrun for the first time can be a daunting prospect. You may have only just completed Couch to 5K and want to take it to the next level. You may even be a seasoned runner but worried what it’s all about. To all of you guys I say “Don’t worry!”
I attended the Cleethorpes Parkrun which is hosted at the Cleethorpes Country Park, 9am every Saturday.
So, Trying out the Parkrun. I arrived way too early which is somewhat of a personal habit and had a walk around the lake. When I got back to the car park/staging area what struck me first was the number of people. This particular run is attended by 130+ runners every week. I was pretty surprised. There were people there of all shapes, sizes and levels of fitness.
It’s about the people
At the Cleethorpes gathering you get the guys that run the 5K in 17 minutes but also beginners who are more comfortable with a gentle jog with walking included. There is no pressure in this environment. The main focus is to get out there and do something and nobody will look down on you for being there if you’re not an “Elite” runner.
I am far from the fastest runner and the support from the volunteers as I ran around the lake was both welcome and encouraging. They do a top job and I can’t fault them giving up a part of their weekend to enable people like myself to run around and get healthier.
All in all, I can’t recommend the Parkrun highly enough. Let us at Active Piranha know what you think of the Parkrun in your area with a little review below!
